After seemingly endless errands and last minute purchases (did I really need that new pair of Nike's? Yes, I think I did!) I think we are ready to head off on our trip. Two weeks from now I will have added 5 new countries to my list of places I've been. We start out in Italy, head to a few stops in Greece (hopefully the riots in Athens will have calmed down by Sunday), dock in Egypt, Cyprus, and Turkey, then back to Italy. Wait! 6 countries! We are driving down to the port in Genoa and we have to go right smack through Switzerland on the way there and back. In fact we are staying the night in Lucerne on the way back. Rod said it's gorgeous through there. Snow-covered Swiss Alps anyone? Yes please! Too bad none of us ski. But there are easier ways to knock on death's door than by standing on top of an ice and snow covered mountain with nothing to stop you but 2 flimsy poles. And trees. Maybe our last winter here we'll go to Garmisch and get the kids a few ski lessons, so they can say they skied in the Alps. But I'll be in the lodge sipping (spiked) hot chocolate! :)
I did manage to carve out some time this last weekend to make a few batches of Christmas cookies for a cookie swap I was in. I got tons of yummy goodies to snack on in the car tomorrow. Most of the kids' presents are wrapped. We got a live tree a few weeks ago...the darn thing up and died on us within 10 days. So the Charlie Brown tree came down yesterday and is now on our patio waiting to be chopped up and burned. So, no tree for presents this year. But the kids emailed Santa (thank you www.emailsanta.com!!!) and asked if he could find kids on cruise ships. Luckily he can *wink wink*. A few things will be left by the kids' beds on Christmas Eve. The rest will be done at home on New Years Eve, I think.
Well I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and New Years. I will post pics when we get back home! Til then...Tschuss!
